Caroline Hartline

Hi! I’m Caroline. I’m a mum of three beautiful boys based on the NSW South Coast and the founder of Billie Green, Australia’s first sustainable intimates brand created specifically for young people.
We live a short walk to the beach and around the corner from the stunning Minnamurra river. It’s truly a kids paradise around here. And not bad for adults too.
After a short stint doing some marketing work in the bra industry, I was shocked by how much plastic is hidden in products designed for teens — with big brands charging high prices for cheaply made items crafted from 100% fossil-fuel-based fabrics. These synthetics shed microplastics into our bodies and oceans, contributing to health and environmental concerns. Research from leading universities and organisations such as the Minderoo Foundation is increasingly highlighting the dangers of these petrochemical fabrics. That’s why I’ve spent the past two years working with expert bra designers and technicians to develop soft, sustainable, and interchangeable designs that grow with young people — without relying on plastics. Alongside Billie Green, I also run Ozeano, an award-winning sustainable eyewear brand dedicated to eliminating plastic waste and supporting ocean conservation.
I launched these businesses to have more flexibility and to spend more time with my kids, but alas, it’s hard work and any free time is very scarce these days!
Where do you live and how long have you lived there?
I moved to Kiama Downs about 7 years ago and it’s the best decision we ever made. I grew up in Northbridge in Sydney but spent 10 years overseas before coming back and finding our home on the stunning NSW South Coast
Describe your local area in 3 words
Coastal, safe, family-friendly
What do you love most about your local area?
Kiama Downs is a small beachside suburb between Kiama and Minnamurra. It’s got two beautiful beaches, a river and a fantastic local community. It’s very safe and quiet as not many people know about it – the tourists all end up in Kiama. Minnamurra Headland offers stunning 360 degree views.
If you had a magic wand and could improve one thing about your local area what would it be?
I can’t think of anything honestly!
How many children?
3 boys (age 11, 9 and 3)
Favourite coffee shop?
Stacks Eatery is our local cafe that has great coffee, burgers and lunch items.
Typical after-school routine?
With 3 kids our afternoon routine is a mix of sport, dance classes, or catching up with friends at home. There is a local playground at the beach where a lot of families from the local school congregate on Friday afternoons.
Favourite school holiday activities in the local area?
We often go camping with our camper trailer during school holidays as both my husband and I work for ourselves. But otherwise, our kids enjoy tennis camps at Minnamurra Tennis Courts and school holiday activities through My First Gym Shellharbour such as Ninja Warrior. One of my kids also does dance workshops in the holidays with Street Beatz in Wollongong which offers breakdancing and popping.
Favourite date night place?
The Grand Hotel Kiama or The Hill Gerringong
Favourite long weekend destination?
Narooma is our kids favourite – the Big 4 has a fantastic indoor water park. It is 3 hours south.
What tips would you have for people moving to the area?
It’s a really fantastic place to live. We never want to leave. I wouldn’t think twice about it. It’s very easy to make friends through school communities and the local gym.
Tell us about what you do for work?

I have had a few career changes over the years and have gone from big corporates like National Australia Bank and PwC to the United Nations Iraq Office and Habitat For Humanity in Poland, aswell as the Australian Red Cross.
