Please provide the main reason for your answer?

My son has since graduated but had a very positive experience throughout Kindergarten to Year 6. The school provides opportunities for all students, no matter their ability or preferences, to get involved and be the best they can be. The school encourages participation, not only achievement. However, students that are high-achievers are nurtured and provided with additional opportunities to develop.

What made you pick this school for your child?

• • Offers a very nurturing and inclusive environment for students

 

• • Very diverse student backgrounds which was very appealing to me because it's important my son interact with other students from different socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds, particularly in his formative primary schooling years

 

• • They have a strong presence in the community

 

• • A reasonably large selection of co-curricular activities are available for students to undertake that did not appear to be as available at other schools in the same area

 

• There is a strong strategic focus on continual school improvement. School leadership seek out feedback from parents and carers and actively respond to this

What does this school do well?

If you had a magic wand what's the ONE thing you would change about this school?

If I had a magic wand, I would focus on enhancing, expanding, and modernising its facilities. While the school offers a nurturing environment and a strong academic program, the infrastructure could benefit from further development to accommodate the increasing demand and provide state-of-the-art resources. The school does benefit from being located in close proximity to large outdoor spaces and beaches and it does take advantage of this for the benefit of the students.

Do you recommend any nearby (external to school) after school activities or school holiday camps?

The local area has a very strong sporting culture. There are countless sports available for students to take up external to the school - cricket, rugby union, rugby league, nippers, little athletics, etc. There is a strong music program delivered by an external company at the school - Directions in Music (https://directionsinmusic.com.au/). I was very impressed by the passion and commitment of the instructors in this program.

Do you use the before / after school care provided by the school? If so, please share your experience?

After school care was used on occasion and we had a very positive experience with this. The carers were amazing and full of energy, which resulted in very engaged students. The food available at after school care was reasonable and suitable to keep the students satisfied until they went home.

Anything else you'd like to share?

My son was very lucky as he had amazing teachers for the majority of his Kindergarten to Year 6 experience. However, there was one year where I believed his teacher was not performing up to standard. My view was aligned with other parents of students in the same class. Being a public school, school leadership appeared limited in what they could do to improve the situation. This led to a number of students, my son included, commencing external tutoring in an attempt to make up for the learning deficit. This was an isolated case.
